Pea - Mammoth Melting - Pisum sativum var. sativum
Hardy Annual Heirloom. Mammoth Melting snap pea pods are used like snow pea pods. The thick, stringless, 4"-5" flat edible pods encase creamy-white peas. A high-yielding, early, uniform, and wilt resistant variety. The pods are excellent for stir-fries, steaming, freezing, or eating fresh.
Did You Know? Mammoth Melting pea vines produce white blossoms that are beautiful enough to use as cut flowers.
Soil & Water: Peas are not particular about soil, but prefer those with plenty of added organic matter and a pH of 5.5-6.8. Provide moderate water until bloom, then lower the water rate.
Planting & Growing: Peas perform best in cool weather between 60-75F; growing season may be extended using shade cloth or frost fabrics. Presoak seeds to help prevent disease and to speed germination. This pea's wilt resistant 4'-5' tall vines should be trellised.
Harvesting & Storage: Peas are usually ready for harvest about 3 weeks after the flower appears and before peas are fully developed in the pods. Regular picking extends production.
