Peaceful Valley Orchard Cover Crop Mix is designed to support healthier, more resilient fruit and nut trees by improving the soil environment around them. Planted between orchard rows or around established trees, this diverse seed blend helps build organic matter, reduce weed pressure, protect bare soil, and encourage more active soil biology throughout the growing season.
The legume portion of the mix, including fava beans, field peas, and common vetch, helps fix atmospheric nitrogen and return it to the soil as the plants break down. This creates a natural nutrient cycle that supports vigorous tree growth without relying only on added fertilizers. As the cover crop matures and decomposes, it contributes valuable biomass that improves soil structure, moisture retention, and nutrient availability around tree roots.
Grasses and broadleaf species in the blend add important orchard benefits. Triticale and cereal ryegrass help create quick groundcover that shades the soil and competes with weeds, reducing competition for water and nutrients. Radish helps loosen compacted areas and improves soil tilth, while yellow mustard adds fast-growing biomass and diversity to the planting.
Use this mix as a living groundcover in orchards, vineyards, and perennial food plantings where long-term soil health matters. Over time, regular cover cropping can help create a more stable, fertile, and biologically active orchard floor—giving trees a stronger foundation for healthy growth, better establishment, and productive seasons ahead.
