The Peaceful Valley Sierra Foothill Dryland Mix – Nitrocoated Seed is specially designed for high rainfall, low fertility foothill soils below 3,000'. This annual/cool-season blend combines nitrogen-fixing legumes with hardy grasses to improve soil fertility, suppress weeds, and provide excellent erosion control. Developed to thrive in dryland or minimally irrigated conditions, it offers consistent yields, high palatability for grazing, and strong recovery after use. Legumes in the mix work naturally with rhizobia bacteria to fix atmospheric nitrogen, while the grasses add dense biomass that improves soil structure and water retention. Ideal for pasture, orchard understory, and erosion-prone slopes, this mix supports both productive forage and long-term soil health.

Best sown in late summer or fall before seasonal rains, this mix establishes quickly and creates a dense, protective cover. Once mature, it can be grazed, mowed, or left in place to decompose, building organic matter and feeding beneficial soil life. Its diverse root systems enhance microbial activity and improve tilth, creating optimal conditions for future crops. Nitrocoating ensures rapid germination and vigorous early growth, even in challenging environments.

Use this mix to improve depleted soils, protect against erosion, or maintain productive pastures in challenging foothill conditions. It’s a low-maintenance, regenerative option for gardeners, land stewards, and small-scale farmers seeking healthier, more resilient land.
